Celebrating 100 Lessons

Today's 100^th lesson in Saxon math was center stage. There was plenty of sillliness as students entered the classroom through our decorated door. We started the morning with a trail mix recipe. Each student brought 100 food items. We mixed all the "ingredients" together and this bowl of goodies was a fun treat for a morning of munching.  Thanks, parents, for contributing.

Our project for the day combined math and art. Students created mosaics.  A mosaic is an art form made with small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. Individual pieces are called tesserae. The pieces fit together to form a design.  To celebrate our 100^th math lesson, the students were given 1-inch paper tiles and the task of creating a mosaic person.

100th Lesson

They then calculated the ratios and percentages of tiles used to create the mosaic.

Celebrating 100 Lessons

Students have studied hard all year in Saxon Math and our recent MAP testing confirms we have grown! I am so proud of these kids. It is time to celebrate, so today's 100th lesson in math was center stage. 

My students were all kinds of excited.

Mosaic Art

A mosaic is an art form made with small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. Individual pieces are called tesserae. The pieces fit together to form a design.  To celebrate our 100^th math lesson, the students were given one hundred 1-inch paper tiles and the task to create a mosaic person.

Fraction People

After the mosaics were created, students calculated the area and fractions that made their art piece a Math Mosaic.

  

Party Mix

Each student brought 100 pieces of a snack item. All ingredients spilled in one bowl to make a party mix. It was fun snack for a morning of munching

A Shred Party

Most parties are about getting together with friends, snacking, and creating fun. But what if you add a year of intense work to the celebration? What if you want to acknowledge the completion of 120 math lessons?

You throw a Shred Party.

Here’s the scoop: a Shred Party involves one class of year-end math students and the biggest paper shredder available in the building. Students then gather their workbooks and go nuts.

Lukus is buried in a year of Saxon math!

Before the silliness began, students recorded 120 math concepts from the 2011-2012 school year. Room 102 completed the entire book . . . front to back  . . . 120 lessons!  Woo! Hoo!

100 Days of Saxon Math

Students mixed math, food, and fun to celebrate the 100th lesson in Saxon Math.  Each student brought from home 100 pieces of a snack item. Everything was stirred in a large bowl to create a trail mix.  

An intense game of "Math Around the World" ended the day's celebration.  We'll conclude Room 102 knows their math facts as there wasn't one clear winner. Clearly, Room 102 is 100 days smarter.
