Writing is "Snow" Fun

Definitely the topic of the day was snow. The weekend's snowfall and Monday's late start added excitement to our writing prompt -
"Life in a Snow Globe"
Students began the project brainstorming a list of what they should include in the prompt. This is not a difficult task for fifth graders living in Nebraska. They then completed a descriptive writing piece using their five senses to describe a snow globe scene. When describing, students learned it is important to engage the reader fully by making him see, hear, feel, taste, and smell that which is described.
Google Docs brought the papers to life with smart editing and styling tools to help students easily format text and paragraphs.
Green screen technology placed each student in a snow globe.

Students have been writing and crafting to transform our hall bulletin board and serve as a wall-to-wall portfolio of their work - just in time for parent teacher conferences. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend next week, February 9, 11, and 12.
